andie macdowell 258x300 Andie MacDowell Signs To Play The Preachers Wife In Footloose RemakeI love me some angry Kevin Bacon dancing and a Kenny Loggins soundtrack as much as any other 80s child, but The Kidd is really coming around on the idea of this FOOTLOOSE remake that Paramount has been dead set on making, regardless of who has dropped from the project. I know I have been incredibly harsh on remakes the past couple of years, but it’s been justified. There hasn’t ben a single remake that’s taken a fresh look at the original material, and it’s always amounted to nothing more than a rip-off. But with the culture war that is raging on as strongly as ever in this country, FOOTLOOSE is as relevant today as it was 26 years ago. Damn… has it really been that long? Shit… I’m getting old.

With HUSTLE & FLOW’s Craig Brewer at the helm now after Kenny Ortega left, and with the unknown Kenny Wormald playing Ren McCormack after the prettier Zac Efron and Chace Crawford bowed out, it’s time to smooth out the edges on this remake. Dennis Quaid has already been cast as Reverend Shaw Moore, a role originated by the always great John Lithgow. Well, now he has finally landed his wife, according to Entertainment Weekly, with Andie MacDowell set to play Vi Moore, who was played by Dianne Wiest in the 1984 original.

Wow… Andie MacDowell…? She still acts…? I thought all she did these days were commercials for cosmetics.

I know she’s done some stuff here and there, but I can’t remember her doing anything of any significance in the last however many years. In fact, that string of forgettable projects probably dates all the way back to MULTIPLICITY… in 1996. Okay, okay… I’ll give her credit for MUPPETS FROM SPACE, but that’s still only ’99. Where the hell has she been the last decade? No, seriously… where? I feel like I should know the whereabouts of everyone who was a part of the cast of ST. ELMO’S FIRE.

From what I remember about MacDowell though, her Southern charm should work extremely well for the role, with the setting of the remake being moved from a fictional town in… hmmm… they never put it in an actual state in the original, did they? Well, now it’ll be in Tennessee, and that should fit MacDowell just fine. I wouldn’t say I’m excited about a FOOTLOOSE remake, because I still do hate remakes, especially ones of films I loved growing up… but there is some promise brewing around this one of FOOTLOOSE.

Yes, I said that… and no, hell has not frozen over, pigs still cannot fly, and monkeys have not come out of anyone’s butt… at least not yet, I don’t think.
