Avatar’s Re-Release Is Set
Because James Cameron doesn’t have enough money, and because he wants to make The Kidd suffer through another round of arguments with people who freely label the movie as “great” while, at the same time, ignoring the fact that it’s the exact same flick as DANCES WITH WOLVES, FERNGULLY, and POCAHONTAS, AVATAR has finally planted its flag in the calendar for its re-release in 3-D and IMAX 3-D.
August 27 is the date 20th Century Fox has claimed, hoping to take advantage of the transition from this rather unspectacular summer into the traditional dumping ground of September when there’s usually nothing of any value for anyone to see. Cameron is now looking to fill that void by offering up a movie that AVATAR fans have already purchased on DVD and Blu-ray but will probably be willing to shell out another 17 bucks for, in order to see the more than 8 minutes of new footage that’ll be attached to the new print.
Typically the never-before-seen scenes are labeled that way for a reason, as they either weren’t good enough to make the final cut or didn’t fit the final vision well enough to be included. Regardless, that footage remained on the cutting room floor for a reason, but it’s being swept up and tacked on in order to sucker you into dropping more cash on what I consider one of the most grossly overrated movies in recent history.
But, hey… it’s your money, so save up your pennies for the end of August when you can journey to Pandora yet again at even higher premium ticket prices. Enjoy.
