Bill S. Preston, Esquire Talks Bill & Ted 3
Strange things are afoot at the Circle K, and this isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumblings that something might be brewing with Wyld Stallyns. Back on the red carpet of the Academy Awards, Ted Theodore Logan himself, Keanu Reeves, made mention about trying to get another BILL & TED movie made, and basically left it at “We’ll see.” However, now Bill S. Preston, Esquire is getting in on the discussion, leading many, including The Kidd, to believe that where there’s smoke, there’s fire… or at least, there’s Bill and Ted.
The duo who has been on both an EXCELLENT ADVENTURE and a BOGUS JOURNEY might have a 3rd something in their future. Alex Winter (Bill) appeared at a double feature of both BILL & TED movies in L.A. over the weekend and, during the audience Q&A, was asked about another sequel. Via Ain’t-It-Cool News, Winter stated that he, Keanu, and Ed Solomon (1/2 of the writing team that created the pair) have been discussing the possibility and kicking around ideas. They don’t want to make a movie that sucks, plain and simple, and would even go so far as making something that isn’t exactly child-friendly. And where Winter left it was by saying that if they can put together a worthwhile story, then BILL & TED 3 will happen.
And The Kidd is all for it.
BILL & TED’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE is, for lack of a better word, excellent, and I realize that the follow-up wasn’t nearly as good as the original, but it’s not as bad as everyone remembers it. Plus, while I’m sure it’s the nostalgia kicking in for these characters, I am all for seeing them make an attempt at reviving the series with the original players involved. Right now, all Hollywood wants to give us are reboots, remakes, reduxes, and reimaginings. Do you want to see BILL & TED remade?
Okay… you don’t have to yell at me. I’m just the messenger. But you know that it’ll happen, if this never goes down. Therefore, if it’s a matter of that or this, I’ll take this. I believe wholeheartedly that the creative trio at the head of BILL & TED absolutely loves these characters and full intend to protect them, not making a movie unless they can absolutely nail it. KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL should be their cautionary tale and warning as to what can happen when you don’t do things correctly. But with the public looking for some of these series to be revived (like GHOSTBUSTERS, for example), it could do strong business to bring them back under the right circumstances.
And there is still awareness of BILL & TED. Not as much as there should be, but Universal Studios has kept their legacy alive by having them front and center yearly as the hosts of their very own show within the Halloween Horror Nights events held in both L.A. and Orlando, FL. And those shows aren’t exactly the most kid-friendly, going a bit more adult at times with their content.
I think it’d be interesting to see Bill and Ted as adults, because I get the feeling Wyld Stallyns didn’t work out as originally planned, which is probably why the world is in the state that it’s in right now. Plus, it’d be just bizarre to see Keanu go back into full-blown teen Ted, even though he rode that dumb routine into success for THE MATRIX trilogy. But I wouldn’t mind picking up on the lives of Bill and Ted now to see where they are… it would be most excellent.
