Comic-Con Footage Of The Goon Hopes To Finally Land The Project A Studio

the goon movie poster 192x300 Comic Con Footage Of The Goon Hopes To Finally Land The Project A StudioOne project that’s been floating around Hollywood the past couple of years is the adaptation of THE GOON, based on Eric Powell’s slightly paranormal comic book series. Blur Studios and David Fincher as a producer have been trying to get it off the ground, since Powell completed the script, but so far no studio has bitten, rendering THE GOON in a place that no film prospect ever wants to be – sans financing.

There’s no money to get THE GOON going, but that didn’t stop Powell and Blur from hitting Comic-Con for a panel to show an extended test reel of footage for the movie, in the hopes of landing a studio deal. The fans’ reaction to what they’ve seen has been largely positive for good reason, and it’s entirely possible that someone might finally leap at making a bid for THE GOON, getting the ball rolling towards production.

MTV News has the full clip, starring Clancy Brown as the title character and Paul Giamatti as his sidekick Franky. Not all of the jokes hit their mark, but you’ve got to really admire the look of the film and the tone they’re going for, as this is a far more adult CGI project than we’re used to seeing. Then again, that doesn’t really give a lot of credit to the jokes that do work, and there are quite a few laughs to be had here. Now it’s a matter of waiting to see who wants to get into THE GOON business, although there has to be questions about Fincher’s overall involvement as he nears the finish of THE SOCIAL NETWORK and then jumps right into THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
