Dimension Films Has Found A Director To Bring Short Circuit Back To Life
The old saying goes “history always repeats itself,” and for the last few years Hollywood has seemingly taken that saying and based their existence on it. It appears they’ve won another battle in their quest to recreate every moderately successful 80′s film ever made.
Deadline has reported that Tim Hill is in talks to direct the Dimension Films remake of SHORT CIRCUIT. Dimension has held the rights to this remake since 2009 but this is the first sign to come along to confirm that this remake will come together. the original film was about a military robot that is struck by lightening and amazingly granted conscious thought and reason. The existential and lovable robot Johnny 5 who was created to be a weapon must now escape the his military creators.
Tim Hill is a strange decision. Hill has made a career of directing and writing children cartoons and movies his most recent being the Universal Studios and Illumination Entertainment film HOP. Dimension’s decision to choose Hill as a director may mean that the SHORT CIRCUIT remake may be more of a family film. The original film was fairly family friendly to begin with but with Hill in charge it may be more of a straight forward kid’s film. This could of course also mean that this is Hill’s big break into big boy pictures, but I doubt that we should expect Johnny 5 to start blasting the heads off of military types.
