DreamWorks Drops Some Character Posters For Megamind
To prepare you for November, DreamWorks Animation wants you to become acquainted with the various characters that make up the universe in MEGAMIND, their superhero flick where the bad guy actually can win. Prior to HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, I was really down on anything coming from DreamWorks’ animated division. I was sick of the SHREK flicks, with the first sequel really going as far as the series should have gone. MONSTERS VS. ALIENS and BEE MOVIE both shaped up to be disappointments, and don’t even bring up the MADAGASCARs to me. Really it’s been only KUNG FU PANDA that has stood out over the past few years.
I did like the extended trailer for MEGAMIND that came out of Comic-Con though, as it did present a different spin on the superhero formula we’ve seen almost driven into the ground with everyone wanting a piece of that comic book action. Will Ferrell can be hit-or-miss, but here he’ll have to be a bit more reined in than his usual rambling improvisational self. There’s just no money to run 5 minute long takes when the animation is already set.
MEGAMIND already has my interest, even if these character posters seem sort of bland. Also, it’s never a selling point for me to know what actors are voicing the animated characters. I can’t see them on-screen, so the fact that they’re involved doesn’t add any extra incentive for me. In fact, when I recognize that the talking tiger is being played by Brad Pitt, it takes me out of the movie a bit. I’d rather have voices that blend into the story rather than ones that stand out as people I know.
