Everyone Goes By Only One Name In The Burlesque Poster
These days, The Kidd was under the impression that it took a sex tape or an arrest to make you a star. Then again, I didn’t have the new teaser poster for BURLESQUE around to correct me on the matter. Apparently, all it takes is a legend. Who knew?
The first one sheet for the SHOWGIRLS-meets-COYOTE UGLY flick BURLESQUE has come out (courtesy of Cinematical), and I’m wondering why anyone would think Christina Aguilera was a big enough star to only go by her first name here. Didn’t she just cancel a concert tour due to poor ticket sales, and didn’t her newest album just bomb upon release? They might want to work her last name in somewhere sometime soon, because Christina is hardly on the level as Cher, who she shares the poster with, or Madonna or Prince, for that matter.
To her credit, she still has enough clout to make sure the graphics department features the hookerific amount of lipstick she always manages to sport. Seriously, Christina (if they don’t have to use her last name, then neither do I)… The Kidd may not wear make-up, but even I know it’s all about moderation. And, to satisfy your own curiosity, I never was one of those eyeliner-wearing dudes. I’ve got a thing about other things coming at my eyes.
In an event, I do expect BURLESQUE to do fairly well in theatres this November. The resurgence of musicals over the past few years should serve it well, and, if MAMMA MIA! can do major business, then it’s not too far-fetched to think BURLESQUE can make a hefty chunk of that. Besides, Christina Aguilera has one helluva voice, so to pay 10 bucks to hear her sing sounds like a bargain to The Kidd.
I don’t know, Christina Aguilera is a household name and She is the person most commonly associated with the name Christina. Every artist has or will have a lull in their careers including Cher, Madonna, and Prince so I don’t exactly think that has a bearing on her name recognition. Besides the fact that I’m pretty sure they were going for a “TRAVOLTA/CAGE” in “Face Off” or “DENIRO/PACINO” in “Heat” kind of billing. I’m pretty sure in this context and not to mention her highly recognizable face, everyone will know who they are talking about.
@JJ I don’t know… Christina Hendricks’ breasts might have something to say about staking a claim on the singular name. And, if this movie is going for Travolta/Cage or De Niro/Pacino, then they are in big trouble already. Point well taken on the face though. I’d know that lipstick anywhere.
