Go Ahead… Make My Millenium By Sequelizing Beetlejuice

beetlejuice 300x202 Go Ahead... Make My Millenium By Sequelizing BeetlejuiceNo one seems to be surprised by what movie titles of old are tossed around for possible rebooting or remaking these days, but take a movie from 20+ years and mention the idea of making a sequel no one thought possible after this long and suddenly people are intrigued, curious, and interested. That’s how I’m feeling about this sudden discussion about a sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 film BEETLEJUICE.

Moviehole has been all over some of the original cast members expressing interest in possibly revisiting the material. Last month, they spoke with Geena Davis, and no one took notice, because it’s Geena Davis. She hasn’t done anything relevant since last century… literally. However, when asked about BEETLEJUICE 2, she exclaimed “I would do that!” amongst other things.

Well, now Moviehole has asked the star of the original himself about reprising his role as “The Ghost with the Most,” and it sounds like he’s down for it under the right circumstances. That’s right… The Kidd is not messing with you. Michael Keaton would do another BEETLEJUICE “in a heartbeat.”

MovieHole: We were wondering, is there going to be a sequel? I heard Geena Davis is ready to go if it happens.

Michael Keaton: Oh I’d do that in a heartbeat.

MovieHole: Would you do it?

Michael Keaton: Absolutely, that’s the one thing I’d love to do again.

MovieHole: That’s great.

Michael Keaton: That’s the only one I’d love to do

I bet you didn’t see that coming… not now at least. A long while back, there were some discussions about pulling off a BEETLEJUICE sequel, with even a script making the rounds that would have brought everyone to Hawaii, and, as quickly as you just rolled your eyes and said “WTF?!” the project died quickly for obvious reasons… like the fact that it was going to bring everyone to Hawaii.

It wouldn’t be hard to bring the original cast back together, as not a lot of them are doing much these days. Most of them would eat anything you want them to eat or swallow anything you want them to swallow. And, if this all works out, they’ll chew on a dog for you, too. Geena Davis is up to nothing. Michael Keaton… oh, Michael Keaton, where have you been? No, seriously…? Where has Michael Keaton been, because POST GRAD isn’t going to cut it for this guy? Will someone for the benefit of all of us get Michael Keaton more quality work? He was MR. MOM, for fuck’s sake.

But toss that pair in with Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and… well, Jeffrey Jones could be a problem if there are children on-set, but, for the most part we should be good to go. Alec Baldwin may be the wild card in all of this, as he’s expressed an interest in retiring from acting once his contract for 30 ROCK is up. However, his career is in a resurgence with the TV show and his performance in IT’S COMPLICATED and the Oscar hosting gig. So, is it possible Alec Baldwin could get involved if the project is worthwhile?

If the public wants it, Hollywood will find a way to get it done, because it means there’s money to be made. So, if you want to see BEETLEJUICE 2, then speak out, and help make it happen. Otherwise, we’ll never get to read the stereo instructions of The Handbook for the Recently Deceased again… and that sucks.

“Sequelizing” is a word that has the ability to make someone very uncomfortable from the sound of it, despite understanding the meaning completely.

    Someone like me, for instance.

Beetlejuice has to be one of my favorite movies. I remember watching it as a kid and LOVING it! If there’s a sequel I would look forward to, it would definitely be this one.
