Is The Red Band Trailer For The Raid Violent Enough For You?
If you’re looking for one balls-to-the-wall, no-nonsense action movie, THE RAID is it. We may get all caught up in how many people Jason Statham is set to kill in his next flick or what action star way past his prime is joining up for THE EXPENDABLES 2, but, coming from the Toronto International Film Festival, all the rage is for THE RAID. This small action film from Indonesia by Gareth Evans was picked up by Sony not too long ago, who hasn’t exactly had the best track record with movies like this that are embraced by the internet community (thanks again for hiding ATTACK THE BLOCK under your Screen Gems umbrella), so it’s not entirely unreasonable to hope like hell they know exactly what to do with a title like this. It’s being called one of the best action films in years. Don’t be afraid of the fact that it’s foreign, and just get it out there for us to consume. Americans might not think twice if it involves guys getting shot in the face. (It does.)
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Deep in the heart of Jakarta’s slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world’s most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the run-down apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building’s lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the sixth floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city’s worst to survive their mission. Starring Indonesian martial arts sensation Iko Uwais.
