Jake Gyllenhaal And Anne Hathaway Are Into Love And Other Drugs
A romantic drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway? Ugh. Gag. Could you make a film more unappealing right off the bat? I don’t know. Probably, I suppose. But this sets the bar pretty high (or pretty low, depending on your perspective) to do so.
Consider The Kidd not a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal… not a fan at all. Maybe it’s some deep-seeded subconscious hatred for the guy and his almost-hijacking of the Spider-Man from Tobey Maguire heading into SPIDER-MAN 2. Maybe it’s the fact that he was absolutely terrible in the always-retarded THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, and believe me… PRINCE OF PERSIA didn’t do him any favors in my mind, as he may just be 1 step away from being Affleck. And this trailer doesn’t do a damn thing to change any of that.
In LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS, Jake Gyllenhaal appears to be a douche, acts like a douche, talks like a douche, and is basically, in all senses of the word, a douche. He picks up all sorts of chicks, because, at that point in their lives, what they want is a douche, and then it all changes for him suddenly, when he lies about who he is and gets to see Anne Hathaway topless. Now, where I come from (New Jersey), that type of behavior is against the law… but not in Hollywood. No, in that magical world, a few briefcase shots to the head WWE-style remedy the situation, and then the victim of such a crime can move onto doing other things with her life, like falling in love with the Peeping Tom.
The only thing LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS has going for it on the surface is that Anne Hathaway decided to come into this picture looking hot, something she doesn’t normally do, maybe out of fear that it’ll take away from her acting talents. To this point, she’s always had frighteningly large lips, and eyebrows that have threatened to take over the rest of her face, but perhaps at the ripe age of 27, Hathaway has finally grown into her beauty and her face. She looks damn fine here, and, as a result, it makes her romance with the peeper that much more bizarre. And, contrary to my position on Gyllenhaal, I actually like Hathaway as an actress. I managed to catch a few minutes of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA again on cable the other night, and she’s excellent in it. It’s just too bad she got matched up with Gyllenhaal, who perfectly puts the douche in douchebag for this flick.
Judge for yourself, but, for The Kidd, I don’t think love is going to do much for my enjoyment of this film. Other drugs, on the other hand…

This is just as bad as thinking about Napo…..nevermind. LOL. I love her, and he played one of my favorite video game heroes perfectly, so that means I’m watching it.
