Let’s See More Machete With The New Trailer
No one is expecting MACHETE to be a great film, but it sure as hell should be entertaining. Robert Rodriguez’ next film, formulated from one of the fake trailers of GRINDHOUSE, will hit theatres on September 3, and, even with September traditionally being the month where the studios dump their shit, 20th Century Fox is hoping that the Labor Day weekend crowd will come out in full force to see the wrong Mexican to fuck with seek revenge on those who double-crossed him.
I’m not sure that’s the best idea, since the film is sure to carry an R rating, and you’d think a lesson would have been learned by the box office take of GRINDHOUSE, which, with similar subject matter, had a disappointing opening on a holiday weekend. The cast may be enough to drive some people’s interest, and GRINDHOUSE’s second life on DVD/Blu-ray and cable may get some other’s, but I’m not sure this new trailer, which will be attached to this weekend’s release of PREDATORS will pull in the general public.
The new trailer for MACHETE, which debuted over at IGN, is far less over the top than the previous effort and, as a result, also far less entertaining. There’s a whole lot of sexy Jessica Alba, which is never a bad thing, but the story seems to take a back seat to the display of big names who’ll be appearing in the flick, and that may be a huge mistake.
I’m still expecting one helluva good time out at the theatre once MACHETE is ready to hit, but this trailer isn’t necessarily giving me second thoughts, but it is leaving me a bit underwhelmed. Also, jail time isn’t sure to aid the movie, which explains Lindsay Lohan’s complete and total exclusion from this cut.
