Looks Like Legendary Pictures Loses Paradise Lost
Despite having cast so many damn actors like Bradley Cooper as Lucifer, Casey Affleck as the Angel Gabriel, and Diego Boneta and Camille Bell as Adam & Eve, respectively, PARADISE LOST was shut down back in mid-December because of the high budget. The postponement came just a few weeks before the flick was about to shoot. The flick had so much damn promise considering the fact that Alex Proyas intended to shoot the epic battle between Lucifer and his band of rebels against God’s forces. About two months later, it looks like we’re getting some sad news on the status of this adaptation of John Milton’s epic poem.
Deadline reported that Legendary Pictures has officially scrapped the PARADISE LOST adaptation because they just couldn’t get the budget down from above the $120 million cap. Right now, they’re blaming the fact that the technology isn’t advanced enough to bring the film to life cheaply. Catch that? The technology is there to make this flick, but not there to do it inexpensively. That’s so frustrating when you have Pixar continually fucking pioneering their CGI, making their flicks more and more realistic and rendering all their movies beautifully; and then Legendary has the nerve to say that they can’t believably create the ethereal paradise that is heaven with today’s technology without spending too much dime.
All hope isn’t lost yet, it seems. The most recent flick to rise from the dead was THE LONE RANGER, so hopefully this flick will get the phoenix treatment because this seems waay more interesting than THE LONE RANGER (Although it doesn’t help that I’m more familiar with the source material for PARADISE LOST than THE LONE RANGER). It seems bleak, but I really hope that one day we’ll get to see this flick. I just find it strange that there are studios throwing money into sequels of flicks that haven’t been released yet and they can’t put money into something that clearly looks good. I’m referring, of course, to AKIRA getting the shutdown. I don’t think I’ll ever understand Hollywood.
