Monsters Gets More Material To Make You Fear The Unknown

monsters movie 300x219 Monsters Gets More Material To Make You Fear The UnknownIt wasn’t until fairly recently that The Kidd became aware of a very small-budget monster movie quite simply titled MONSTERS that had been making the rounds on the film festival circuit and developing quite a following. Strong buzz has been picking up on Gareth Edwards’ film that feels a lot like CLOVERFIELD and a lot like DISTRICT 9 with plenty of mystery still remaining as to what the creatures involved are and what they look like.

A new trailer has hit, along with a new one sheet, and still plenty of questions remain, with only the most basic information relayed about the film’s set-up, but, as with the very first trailer, you never get a glimpse of what is out there… and I love the hell out of that. You don’t get that money shot that trailers live for, but sometimes give far too much of the cool stuff away for a film. You get something throwing around cars with ease, and that’s about it… but it gives you pause in trying to answer what the hell is so pissed at these vehicles.

The new trailer should tease you about as much as the last one did, and that makes it a good one. It entices you to want to know more, while never giving you more than it ever has to. It’s good to see old-school trailers are back on the rise. I enjoyed CLOVERFIELD as one helluva monster movie, and I’m hopeful MONSTERS will deliver something along those lines.

Here’s the official synopsis of MONSTERS:

Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures… Our story begins when a jaded US journalist (Scoot McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his boss’ daughter, a shaken American tourist (Whitney Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border.
