Piranha 3-D Wants Some Oscars
It really is a shame that Dimension Films isn’t planning on screening PIRANHA 3-D in anticipation of its release this weekend. That sends up flares about how bad the movie is that the studio wants to prevent bad word-of-mouth from seeping into the water supply of those who might actually want to see it. But come on… how could a movie about man-eating fish feasting on Spring Breakers at a lake where blood and gore are expected to be plentiful not be awesome? I’ve been looking forward to PIRANHA 3-D for quite some time now, and I think the Weinstein Company’s lack of funds is more of a problem in properly pushing PIRANHA 3-D than staying away from the anticipated harsh words of critics (Weinstein is the parent company of Dimension). Traditionally, critics hate most horror movies as it is, so no good can really come from the studio giving them the opportunity to bash and unload hatred for a movie that’s not meant for them.
But PIRANHA 3-D is meant for you and me. It’s meant for people who want to go to the movies to have a good time, and see something that might entertain them for a couple of hours. It’s meant for people who will recognize it as the fun flick it’s supposed to be. That’s why Funny Or Die has put out a For Your Consideration video on behalf of PIRANHA 3-D, so they can get ahead of the competition for the Academy Awards next year.
The film makes some good points in pleading its case for some nominations and trophies. I mean, you can’t nominate INCEPTION 10 times for Best Picture. Plus, the Academy has failed to recognize the plentiful assortment of movies that would really battle it out for Best Penis Being Gobbled And Spit Out In 3-D for far too long. This could be the year that well-deserving category finally gets it due with a well-deserving winner championing the cause.
Besides, right now I am willing to support whatever Riley Steele asks me to, because she is outrageously hot. So how about some damn Oscars for PIRANHA 3-D, Academy? Don’t be a bunch of dicks. I mean, Paul Scheer is offering to give you some good Oscar back. That has to be worth something.
