Pixar Attempts To Help Jason Segal Make The Next Muppet Movie Better
Being part of the team for a movie under Disney certainly has its advantages, one of which is the vast ocean of resources available to you. And, if you could tap into the best resource within the company in the hopes of bettering your own product, wouldn’t you want to use that to try guaranteeing your own success? Well, it looks like that’s what is happening under The Mouse’s watch, as the creative brain trust of Pixar is being called in to consult on several major Disney projects, in order to fine-tune and improve them, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
First, it was TRON: LEGACY, with the filmmakers approaching the minds of Pixar in order to flesh out the story more fully to match the film’s incredible visuals, making it a more well-rounded film. Next up is the untitled Muppets movie being put together by Jason Segel and director James Bobin. Filmmakers John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, Michael Arndt, Bob Peterson and president Ed Catmull were brought in for a table read of the script, in order to lend advice, offer up critiques, and ultimately try to work out any unforeseen problems with the script or issues with the story that could be correct with rewrites before it gets greenlit and sent off to shoot.
Pixar has such an incredible rate of success, which can be accredited to their own creative process of working vigilantly to make their script and story better in pre-production, that it should be considered a bonus to be able to go to the geniuses who have helped build Pixar into a powerhouse and seek help on your own projects. Other studios don’t have such a luxury, and, as a filmmaker, how could you not want to hear the wisdom of those at Pixar on what might make your movie better, based upon their track record at the box office.
This does not mean Pixar is being recruited to take over any and all projects at Disney, but they are merely an additional tool being used within the overall operation of Disney in order to make sure high-quality films are being put out, which make the Disney film brand that much more valuable. Plus, it certainly can’t hurt. After all, anyone who saw PRINCE OF PERSIA or THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE can easily say that those films desperately needed the Pixar touch.
