Scream 4 Does The Cast Member Shuffle And More
SCREAM 4 is finally in front of cameras, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some last minute shuffling going on with the cast in order to get the last correct pieces in place.
Lauren Graham is out.
Marley Shelton, Adam Brody, and Erik Knudsen are in.
And a new mask could be joining the festivities.
Lauren Graham (GILMORE GIRLS) has left the production, according to FEARnet, with no explanation given for her departure. However, with her gone, 3 new talents popped up in her place, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with the delicious Marley Shelton cast to play the role left vacant by Lake Bell’s dropping-out as a deputy who knew Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott back in high school. Brody, who’s best known for his role on THE O.C. a few years ago, is set to “play a cop recently graduated from college who was raised on the ‘CSI’ TV series.” As for Knudsen (SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD), he’s tabbed to fill the Jamie Kennedy role from the original trilogy, as the character most familiar with the horror genre from his participation in conventions.
For those of you holding out hope that Jamie Kennedy might be brought back to do the only thing he’s ever done that was worth a damn (other than Jennifer Love Hewitt), it’s not going to happen… unless there’s some secret twist in the works. Kennedy took to his Twitter to respond to the constant questioning and creative rumors, stating “for all those still asking bout scream 4. I am dead , dead, and double dead.”
As far as the mask is concered, R.J. Torbert, who is part of the Fun World operation that created, owns, and has copyrighted the Ghost Face mask, has also been tweeting as of late, giving some teeny tiny itsy bitsy hints that we may be seeing a couple different masks coming into play during SCREAM 4.
“i expect there to be 2 diff masks, however i will say this, things changing very often-difficult to say without giving it away”
“sent out additional GHOSTFACE to the SET today, a very interesting opening scene.”
“lets just say, the town of Woodsboro, has an obsession.there is your hint”
So will there be some variations made to the classic design we’ve grown familiar with, in order to allow the planned new trilogy to stand on its own a bit?
Because, if anything isn’t changing, it’s the security on the film, which is tight, tight, tight. The Hollywood Reporter reports that “to preserve the identity of the killer, [Wes] Craven and [Kevin] Williamson are operating under several layers of secrecy, including not sending the script to agencies. At a table read last week, the actors were told to stop reading at page 75 to prevent even those already cast in the film from knowing the climax.”
If there was any doubt they are taking SCREAM 4 seriously, I think this should quiet those concerns. This is not a cash grab at all. This is looking more and more like the real deal, and The Kidd is absolutely looking forward to it.
