The Due Date International Trailer Offers Up Much Of The Same
Some of you have been looking forward to the pairing of Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis later this year on DUE DATE. I hate to say it, but The Kidd has been rather unimpressed thus far, and the new international trailer for the film doesn’t change that much. This new cut is a lot of the same material we’ve already seen before with the opening 20 seconds really being the only difference.
I’m still holding out hope that seeing the film in its entirety will play a lot differently, and that much hilarity will ensue. However, I really think the way DUE DATE is being marketed right now is doing the film some major disservice. The trailers so far have tended to focus a lot on the slapstick comedic elements of the film, which are front and center here once again – Galifianakis running into the car door, the drainage ditch pop, etc. And that’s a shame, because the moments I’ve actually found to be the most entertaining to this point have been the interactions between Galifianakis and RDJ going back and forth. The opening uphill/downhill discussion is one of the best sequences I’ve seen from the film so far, and I still get a kick out of the Waffle House bit… but the rest of it just falls flat for me.
Come on, Todd Phillips… I know you’re better than this.
Looks interesting because I’m a big fan of Zach and his antics. Otherwise, the trailer is not that appealing.
