The Joaquin Phoenix Documentary Will Rap Its Way Into Theatres
Remember when Joaquin Phoenix announced that he was quitting acting altogether and was going to become a rapper…? Oh, you don’t care about Joaquin Phoenix that much either to have really cared…? Well, let me fill you in… that’s what happened. He grew a Jesus beard and ran around making strange appearances on Letterman and performing in clubs, and no one took it very seriously, because… well, Joaquin Phoenix wasn’t that notable as an actor to begin with, so why would anyone care that much if he was retiring?
Well, it appears it was all for a documentary or a mockumentary or whatever the hell you want to call it with -umentary at the end, because, with Casey Affleck directing it all and shopping it around, Magnolia Pictures looks to be in serious talks to purchase the film for distribution at some point in time, according to Deadline Hollywood. And, according to what potential buyers leaked to Vulture about what they saw, this Phoenix film may be the biggest piece of shit he’s ever done… literally.
“Phoenix snorts cocaine, orders call girls, has oral sex with a publicist (it’s unclear who was the giver and who the taker), and treats his assistants abusively… Several buyers said the film overflowed with Hollywood debauchery, including more male frontal nudity than you’d find in some gay porn films and a stomach-turning sequence in which someone feuding with Phoenix defecates on the actor while he’s asleep.”
I know that the MPAA has wavering standards when it comes to violence in movies and are far more strict when it comes to cursing and sex… but where do you think a Cleveland Steamer sits on their chart?
Magnolia Pictures is a small small small studio, and I hope they aren’t breaking the bank for a movie that would probably not catch a rating in its current form, which would be like financial suicide for such a tiny operation.
