the karate kid remake The Karate Kid Sequel Script Moves Forward

There are a handful of movies that make me physically angry when they’re brought up in conversation, forcing me to recall my horrible memories of suffering through them. NAPOLEON DYNAMITE is the cream of the crop. Oh, man… does that movie piss me off… but following in a close second is the remake of THE KARATE KID, starring Will Smith’s little brat kid and Jackie Chan. Making the same movie over again beat-for-beat was completely unnecessary, but what made the offense even worse was that they tweaked it enough to show that they never really got what the 1984 Ralph Macchio original was really about. Now the sequel is picking up steam again, and if you think it’s not going to be a rip-off of the original’s sequel, you’re crazy. Anyone else anticipating Miyagi Mr. Han being challenged to fight his childhood rival in a hurricane.

Variety reports that Zak Penn has gotten the latest nod to rewrite the script originally written by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris immediately following the remake’s release. Penn, which is fitting for THE KARATE KID 2 or whatever the hell it’s going to be called, has been responsible for ELEKTRA and X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, not to mention THE INCREDIBLE HULK and an early draft of THE AVENGERS.

If they incorporate some sort of cover of Peter Cetera’s “The Glory of Love,” I’m going to punch Jaden Smith in the face. Who else could possibly be blamed for such a debacle?
