The Rock Gets Back To Making Action Movies… If You Smell What He’s Cookin’
It feels like forever ago that The Rock, or as he wants to be referred to now – Dwayne Johnson (he’ll still always be The People’s Champ to me), was on his way to becoming this generation’s next truly great action star, something that seems to be severely lacking unless you want to see Jason Statham in everything. Then he went on to make a bunch of kiddie movies, topping it with the worst of them all, THE TOOTH FAIRY, and it’s been on the road to recovery for The Rock’s reputation since, as it’s hard to get excited for anything the guy’s in after that.
FAST FIVE is a step in the right direction, or about as good an option as one could have, considering it’s a movie starring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, but it’s action nonetheless. Then there’s FASTER, which will be out this November, which gives you the feeling that The Rock only wants to do movies now that have a certain word in the title.
FASTER though has The Rock playing an ex-con who is out for revenge in searching for those responsible for the death of his brother. You know what that means…? The Rock is going to lay the smack down on someone’s candy-ass… or maybe several people’s collective candy-asses, which is even better.
The teaser trailer will give you a taste of what’s to come, and, even though you don’t get to see any of Carla Gugino, Moon Bloodgood, or Maggie Grace, which is a strong selling point for The Kidd, you do get the sense that The Rock is about to rough up some jabronis.
