thor2 173x300 UPDATED!!! The Thor Comic Con Footage In All Of Its Glorious EntiretyI’d say a good portion of you weren’t out in San Diego this past weekend, taking in the sights and sounds of Comic-Con. Neither was The Kidd, and, as a result, the best we could hope for on some fronts was detailed scene-by-scene breakdowns of some of the spectacular footage shown during various panels and presentations. That includes everything to come from Marvel, including THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA, and THE AVENGERS. Well, you can cross one of those off your list right now, because The Kidd has the entire THOR reel for you to feast your eyes on.

The THOR footage has been leaked to the internet in all of its glory, and it looks pretty damn good. I didn’t quite get the blown-away feeling I got the first time I saw the IRON MAN footage that debuted at Comic-Con a couple years back, but, nevertheless, it’s still impressive. There is a lot going on here, especially if you’re not a Thor die-hard, so, falling into that category, I’ve had to run through this quite a few times to make sure I’ve got everyone’s character straight, in addition to a general idea of the plot. I think you’re going to have to wait to see this all the way through to really judge how good this may truly be. But i like what I’m seeing as a start. The sets and costumes look far better in action than they do in still images, and you get a small taste of the action that’ll be a part of the Thor/Loki showdown. But the last few seconds will absolutely leave you feeling optimistic, with the introduction of The Destroyer. The Kidd got that warm, tingly feeling that I got when I saw War Machine first pop up in the IRON MAN 2 trailer, but this may be even better. Bad-ass explosive destruction is on the way there, and we’ve barely even scratched the surface of what’s to happen there.

Overall, I like where things are headed, but I’m going to keep my expectations in check, so I don’t get burned. With that said, I am expecting great things for THOR, and hope we continue to see that right direction as we get closer to next May. I don’t love it yet… but I do really like it.

UPDATE – You’re really going to have to look far and wide to find the THOR footage, as Marvel didn’t take too kindly to the reel being leaked as it was. They’ve gone ahead and gotten it pulled down from everywhere, so, if you do manage to find it, you’d better watch it quickly, because it probably won’t be sticking around for long. I wonder if the reaction had been overwhelmingly positive if Marvel would have worked so hard to remove it. Perhaps they have a better glance at THOR they’re saving as part of their official unveiling. We shall see. But, because the footage is no longer available, I’ve gone ahead and pulled down the inactive player. It’s no use keeping something around that doesn’t work the way you want it to.

UPDATE #2 – Our on-again/off-again relationship with the THOR Comic-Con footage continues, as Hollywood.com has now gotten a hold of the reel and posted it up for your viewing pleasure. There’s no telling if it will stick around for any extended period of time, but this looks to be a much cleaner cut of the same footage that had been leaked. I’ve run through it a few more times since discovering it was re-posted, and the more I see it, the more I’m liking it. Chris Hemsworth looks like an absolute beast as Thor, and Anthony Hopkins doesn’t seem to be mailing in his performance (as he did in THE WOLFMAN), which is always a good sign. I’ll be most interested in seeing how they marry the world of Asgard to Earth and making it seem like a natural fit in the Marvel Movie Universe, because THOR doesn’t exactly mesh well with what’s been laid out for us thus far. But, for those of you who have been skeptical on this one, give this footage a couple more run-throughs, and I think you’ll find that with each new play, progress is made.
