Tom Cruise Is Working On The Les Grossman Movie
Ask and ye shall receive.
The Kidd spent a good chunk of his Sunday night going on and on and on about how I could easily sit and watch Tom Cruise’s latest alter-ego Les Grossman (from TROPIC THUNDER) for a couple of hours straight, and how the only prequel I could see myself getting excited about is THE RISE OF LES GROSSMAN.
Now, while the title is all mine, that doesn’t mean I’m the only great mind who thinks a Les Grossman spinoff is an awesome idea. In a conversation backstage at the MTV Movie Awards with a correspondent from E!, Cruise answered a question about a Les Grossman film with “We’re working on it… Yup, we’re working on it.”
It’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen Cruise as Grossman in all his full uncensored glory, and many rolled their eyes at MTV for having their ceremony “produced” by Grossman, as it seemed they were really behind the curve in finding what’s funny or what’s cool or what’s current for that matter. However, a great character is a great character, and Grossman holds up remarkably well… well enough that he could easily carry his own flick.
Tom Cruise has really seen a revival since TROPIC THUNDER and has done a total image overhaul with his moves away from doing standard Tom Cruise movies. Plus, I think it’s safe to say we aren’t talking about his couch-jumping incident again, although I just did, but what do you want from me? I have a good memory, so screw off.
I wish Cruise all the luck in the world in developing this with whatever creative team is behind it. If it all works out, we could be looking at a tremendous and memorable comic role that could continue delivering us excellent material… or, it could be just another damn prequel… or sequel, for that matter. But I’m willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt, especially after another sick appearance by Cruise/Grossman at the MTV Movie Awards.
If you’re a doubter, I completely understand… but that’s not going to change the fact that we know have to locate the key grip to come your place and punch you in the face really hard. Sorry… it comes with the territory of second-guessing Les Grossman.
