When This Baby Hits 88 MPH, You’re Going To See A Back To The Future Video Game

back to the future 300x191 When This Baby Hits 88 MPH, Youre Going To See A Back To The Future Video GameRoads…? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads… but we will need a video game console of some sorts, if we want in on this awesomeness. And what do you know…? USA Today is good for something besides ruining movie surprises.

Earlier this year, Telltale Games signed a deal with Universal, securing the rights to mView postake video games based on 2 of their franchise properties – JURASSIC PARK and BACK TO THE FUTURE. Things have remained quiet on the JURASSIC PARK front, but thanks to USA Today, we’re now getting details as to what a BACK TO THE FUTURE video game would consist of.

Bob Gale, who penned all 3 movie installments, is hard at work on putting together a plot that would thread 5 “episodes” for the game version, and would actual use the likenesses of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd (exaggerated to a point) with Lloyd returning in voice to reprise his role. There’s no word on any possible involvement by Fox.

“As for the storyline, Telltale would confirm that the games would include an appearance of the DeLorean time machine and, the fictional California setting of Hill Valley. The time periods covered will include 1985 and additional characters from the movies will crop up in the game.”

From what The Kidd can make out from this, these “episodes” are going to be more of a downloadable game that you can pick up off Xbox Live or the Playstation Network or Wii Ware (or whatever the hell Nintendo is calling their thing these days). Therefore, it’d cost you far less than what a standalone game would, but, in exchange, you’ll wind up with a smaller game experience.

Either way, it doesn’t bother me one bit, because it means we’re getting a BACK TO THE FUTURE video game. That’s bad-ass. And we’re going to get it sooner rather than later, with the first “episode” scheduled to get released this winter, somewhere around the release of the 25th anniversary Blu-ray. Can you feel the excitement, Calvin Klein? Isn’t this better than the Enchantment Under The Sea dance? Because if it’s not, then Darth Vader could come down from the planet Vulcan and melt your brain.

Okay… I think that’s enough BACK TO THE FUTURE references for one story. Time to make like a tree, and get out of here.

I COULD GUSH ABOUT TELLTALE FOR HOURS.

They have a fantastic pedigree, and they’ve done really well with previously developed game licences, (Sam and Max, Monkey Island) but they have just started to get into their own, more unique things. (Puzzle Agent was *great.*)
The most important thing to note is that with Telltale’s episodic games, player feedback is important. If something doesn’t work well in the first episode, they might have time to rework and fix it for the release of the third episode.

As long as Marty gets a power boost when they call him “chicken,” then I’m good to go.
