Zombieland 2 Will Splatter Zombies At Your Face In 3-D When It Happens
I loves me some zombies. Whenever a new zombie movie comes around, The Kidd takes notice and gets excited. I am all kinds of amped up for AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD this October. SHAUN OF THE DEAD easily ranks among my all-time favorite films, and last year I had a great time watching ZOMBIELAND. Therefore, when word spread early that ideas were already being hatched for a sequel, I absolutely was in favor of whatever they were thinking. I’m not sure how they could possibly top what might be one of the greatest cameos ever, but I have no doubt that they’re up to the task of making another awesome zombie comedy.
Director Ruben Fleischer recently spoke to MTV News about the work being put into ZOMBIELAND 2 as they try to sort out their ideas and formulate one solid script, and one thing is clear – Fleischer is all for 3-D zombies. “When it comes to 3-D, I feel pretty strongly that you should shoot it in camera. I feel like it just looks so much better. If you’re going to make a 3-D movie, go ahead and make a 3-D movie. I would definitely, if we do ‘Zombieland 2,’ make it in 3-D and want to shoot it in 3-D… I think it’s cool to see stuff fly at your face. The idea of zombies splattering into the lens is exciting for me.”
It’s exciting for me, too. Zombie Kill of the Week in 3-D…? Oh, hell yeah.
Original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are trying to hammer out the script right now, further evidence that DEADPOOL is probably going to happen later rather than sooner, unless they’re bring on new writers, and it’s all a matter of piecing together the various aspects of the script that work. They have a certain amount of freedom to play with the events that make up ZOMBIELAND 2, because there’s no hard timeline they have to follow. They could go flashbacks and prequel for parts of it. They could skip ahead to the future of Zombieland. They could pick up right where the last one left off. It’s all a possibility.
“One of the fun things about ‘Zombieland’ is it jumps all over the place in terms of the storyline. It’ll go to before zombies to after zombies and all around those worlds. What’s fun about the sequel is we have freedom and flexibility to show different periods. We might have scenes before the zombies, or we might have some months after, or potentially stuff further down the road. Through the voice-over and the way the movie is structured, we can really explore all different sides of it.”
All 4 of the main principles have expressed interest in returning, and, by the time ZOMBIELAND 2 gets around to shooting, its cast is going to have greater name value than it did before. Woody Harrelson will still be Woody, but Emma Stone will be on another level due to EASY A, and Jesse Eisenberg is going to be on everyone’s mind after they see THE SOCIAL NETWORK. That just means more people seeing ZOMBIELAND 2, which means more zombie movies, which means The Kidd is in heaven. Woohoo!!!
